The weekend so far

I had a nice day yesterday. There was an exchange of Valentine gifts in the morning. She liked her present a lot. And mine was a finely crafted fountain pen. There's something about writing with the old style ink suction type pen. Makes me feel a bit like an author just to write with one.

In early afternoon, there was a barbecue boat ride in honor of a friend's birthday. We rode around the Harbor, ate barbecue with all the fixin's and then went to the island where everyone walked on the beach. It was a good time. Even though the day was overcast and rainy, everyone enjoyed the food, the sights, and the comraderie.

Because of the birthday barbecue, we had our Valentine dinner on Friday evening. It was at a newly opened Italian restaurant. Great food and a front row seat to watch the head chef and owner "direct" the orders and give them his blessing before they were sent out to the diners. If you've never watched the chefs at a good restaurant in action, you've missed something. It's better than the food network. And the energy expended is tremendous. Anyway, the dinner was fantastic and the chef show enjoyable.

Today is a lazy day. I'm going to read, go for a walk on the beach, maybe watch a movie and then host the chat tonight starting at 8 PM over at the Second Road. If you get a chance, come on over. The topic is going to be getting balance in our lives. I don't know about you but I needed some balance. I was no where near the center of the road. Hope that you can make it.

  3. What a great idea in a restaurant! Most people have no idea what goes on in a fine dining kitchen. My sister and brother in law are both chefs. They have their own shop. check it out http://www.chocolatierbarrucand.com/ Anyway, I've worked in the buisness, not as a chef though. See you tonight.jeNN

  4. Yep, I plan to click on TSR. Hope it is simple to get on the "chat" area. That's sort of new to me...but everything is new (to me) at first!

Blogging was "new" eight months ago, afraid to start, now I love the whole atmosphere.

    Tuesday? Right!

  7. sounds like a great day!

I'd love to do the chat about finding balance- MUCH needed, but I don't think it will work with the time difference (I am in the UK).

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  8. Due to a rather intense conversation with my recovering-alcoholic mother, you will see me tonite at 8. Balance wasn't' in our vocabulary as a family when I was growing up. One of the best gifts of Alanon is the ability to try and find the humor in a situation that is unmanageable. I may be a bit crazy still but at least I know it and can laugh at myself. I can be such a goof sometimes.

  10. That chef has no head! He must be really talented.

I was watching Hell's Kitchen the other night, and I was thinking I'd hate to be dining at a place where the chef was going all ballistic on his staff. I do love open kitchens in high end restaurants. I would love to do one of those chef's table things in the kitchen one day.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. I'm going to get to check out some marine life this week in Florida. I'm psyched.

  11. Nothing like lazy days...I'm happy that you got to have some fun this weekend. I did, also. It's pretty fun to have a valentine on Valentine's Day.

You said you were going to read a book. Mind if I ask what you're reading?

    Peace!

  14. I like fountain pens as well. I haven't written with on in years. When I was a child my grandmother in England sent me one. I wrote all my letters to her with it. It was red with a black bladder. Thanks for bringing back that memory.
