Day One--Road trip
We're heading to Frederickburg, VA today. That will be an 8 hour drive.
I have the IPod connected so that it plays out of the car speakers. There's a lot of music on it. Last night I downloaded speakers who told their story at the roundup I went to. There's about 80 AA speakers, Big Book studies, step studies and several Al-Anon speakers loaded on the IPod.
We generally listen to a few speakers while driving. And we talk about what we've heard. We take turns driving. I have a conference call to do on the way up there. I wish work didn't interfere, but it's only for about an hour.
All being well, we'll get to Fredericksburg in time to walk around the historic town and take a look at Marye's Heights where around 17,000 men were killed in one day. It never ceases to amaze me what we do to one another in the name of war.
I'm looking forward to our journey back "home".

Bon voyage!
ReplyDeleteI need to call our local AIS office (I think that's what it's called) to find out about where to get the recordings of speakers. Since I walk every day, this would be WAY better than the radio that I listen to!
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip.
ReplyDeleteDamn work.
Sounds like a wonderful trip.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful trip. Man's cruelty to man is certainly among us even today. I do think it starts within and apart from God.
ReplyDeleteBe safe.
Sounds like a healthy drive for both of you. Have fun and be careful.
ReplyDeleteVirginia is beautiful this time of year. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWhere is "home" Syd? I'll be heading up past Fredericksburg sometime in June on my way to upstate NY. I love that route 29.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful country, and we're traveling right along with you. How good is THAT?
ReplyDeleteI'll be vicariously traveling on this trip too!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your updates.
Beautiful but quite warm, hopefully cooler tomorrow. Drive safe!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the trip!
ReplyDeleteHave a safe, enjoyable drive! I have had a big iPod with tons of music on it for about a year and what I love about it most is that capability of loading podcasts and books on it too! It makes for such a variety on long trips. Wow, I will have to research Marye's Heights and learn about that situation as the numbers are incredible! I too am always amazed at what we humans can do to one another. Twenty-five years of working in a prison did NOT change that fact at all! I am glad I am still amazed because in prison, you seem mans inhumanity often. It's sad. Take care, Lisa
ReplyDeleteThose speakers really make the time and the miles fly by. Have a safe one!
ReplyDeleteJust amazing how we can benefit from downloading "entertainment." I'm still amazed at technology, not having grown up with computers. Have a nice trip home.
ReplyDeleteYour picture makes me so nostalgic for where I grew up around Washington, D.C. and in Md. and Va.
ReplyDeleteFlorida does not look like that - at all.
Have a great trip. Enjoy your music and speakers.

ReplyDeleteSounds like a great trip, enjoy and I couldn't agree more that what we have done in the name of "war" and "peace" is always amazing!
ReplyDeletePeace to you today!

Okay, so best five songs on your ipod. What would you say they are?
ReplyDeleteI'm from Virginia and lived in Fredericksburg, Stafford and just outside of Richmond in Ladysmith but grew up in Northern, Va. If you can follow Princess Anne St to all the shops. It's beautiful this time of year, usually warm days, cool nights. If you go to Spotsylvania be careful, my brother is a Sgt in the Sheriffs Dept., on patrol and he'd give my mother a ticket, lol!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a good trip, although the traffic can be a bitch, there's so much to see.
Have a great trip !!! ENJOY! Be SAFE!!:}
ReplyDeletei had to come check why you're so quiet..... nevermind. have fun!
