God things

I am bone tired today. I don't think that I have caught up from the weekend. Sailing all day, reading and studying at night and then getting up early to repeat the schedule for 3 days has taken its toll. I think that my body is telling me to rest. So I'm going to take a few hours and do that this morning.

Fortunately, I'm happy with nothing heavy on my mind. I went to my home group meeting last night and did the meeting on Tradition Seven. You know I love those traditions in the program. I used to yawn when they were read. Someone once made a comment that they really used the traditions, and I thought, "How?". It wasn't until I came to understand them in the context of relationships with others that I knew how valuable they were. And that was one of the shares last night--a lady saying that she only thought the traditions were about the group. Isn't the program truly God-inspired when what is written can be applied in every aspect of life--"in all our affairs"?

It's a lovely gray overcast day today. There was a lot of rain last night. And maybe more on the way today. A heavy oak limb came down in the yard while my wife was out with the dogs. She said that it missed her by about six feet. I was so glad that she is okay and told her that God has other plans for her. She said, "No, I'm just lucky." She still resists the concept of a Higher Power. I can't do anything about that. I know that my HP is active in my life. And that has been made evident in so many ways.

Now I'm going to put away the computer and sleep for a couple of hours. I'll then go into work. I'm grateful for having an abundance of sick leave and a great job. And for a meeting tonight that is always a good one.

Have yourselves a peaceful day.

  4. I am learning that the HP has never left me or any of us. I remember many years back my husband was on the highway heading out of town on business. The phone rang at 11am, the voice was that of my husband,Iknew before I even picked up the phone ( no call display back then ) something was wrong.
He was in car accident, obviously, he was ok , he spoke to me. It was road rage between a young PUNK and and old man. My hubby's care was sandwiched sideways between a large school bus and a flat bed carrying 4 culverts, dragging him down the 401hwy. When it came to a stop the flat bed was now on top of his car and the roof was very close to his face, he was now laying flat in his car his upper body now in the back seat. All he had ( thank GOD ) were a few scratches on his upper legs. His father had just passed away about 8 mos before. When I saw the car I knew it could not have been his time , either wise, no ONE was meant to get out of that tangled metal alive. The car looked like it had been taken to the dump and pressed. He had the higher power watching over him that day, as did your wife with the falling branches from the tree. One day she will see it that way.

Have a well deserved rest. SMILES

  8. I hope your rest was lovely and that the rest of your day is improved more...

Today, the traditions set the principles and directions of my life more than the steps...

I've even found the 12 Concepts particularly useful...

    Blessings and aloha...

  11. The new Al-Anon book, Discovering Choices, does a really excellent job of illustrating how the Traditions can be used in "all our affairs".

  14. My new schedule is work like crazy for 3 days in a row, and then recoup Thursday & Fridays. I'm tired about now, but I try to keep my eye on the prize.
I've noticed being on the water wears me out for some reason too.

  15. I don't want to hear about rain. I can't even remember what it sounds like. This summer is hell.

  16. Just like in the group the Traditions help me to live in the world outside, if I let them.. At the moment it HAS to be about principles and not personalities.

  19. I also attend a Step and Traditions study meeting. I just love learning how to use these principles in all areas of my life. Just imagine defining a 'primary purpose' in all of our relationships! WOW! Thanks for a great reminder. Sleep well.
