One of my favorite pieces of literature in Al-Anon is from the book From Survival to Recovery. Some have called these the Al-Anon "promises". I have always felt moved by the words on page 86 of the book Alcoholics Anonymous. So when I read them I could see why these are considered "promises" for Al-Anon. They are coming true for me as I progress in the program.
World Service doesn't call them promises or gifts. I cannot post them here because that would be in violation of a copyright. However, you can find them in the AFG book From Survival to Recovery on page 269.
I can tell you that these will come true for you if you will commit to this program of recovery.
It isn't often you hear about the promises of Al-Anon and since the AA promises are not conference approved they aren't brought up at our meetings. Both have given me hope that it will all work out. Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Syd.
ReplyDeleteWe read the Al Anon promises at the end of each meeting.
ReplyDeletesmiles. these are some great promises...more joy and laughter...i think we could all use a bit more of that...
ReplyDeleteI love the promises. I had a hard time believing that I could ever become a person "with a great capacity for joy, fulfillment, and wonder,"
ReplyDeletebut I have.
Thanks for this timely post.
Those are wonderful promises for anyone to work towards.
ReplyDeleteThe Promises have to be one of the key pieces of why it works, not that anyone cares why, but some of us do. Thanks for putting them out there.
ReplyDeleteI love those promises :-) thanks
ReplyDeleteEven when I have nothing to say, Syd, I am still reading. I want you to know that.
ReplyDeleteremeniscent of our own promises in AA... these results will come to pass for those who keep to the steps, wear a true heart, give love, and take care of themselves.
ReplyDeleteBeing: a work in progress- can be frustrating; but I am grateful to have the path! Thanks for posting
ReplyDeletethe promises.
Wow. That's awesome. I really needed to read that today. Been going through a real low tough time dealing with my marriage and the reality of addictions. Thank you.
