Dream life

Rain and thunderstorms have been moving through since yesterday afternoon.  When I got home from the boat, we picked vegetables from the garden, baked some bread, took a nap, and then stayed inside for the rest of the day.  The rain poured down which made it easy to rest up from a full weekend with boating friends.

My mind is devoid of creativity today so I'm going to post some photos from the weekend.  I won't be going out for three more weeks because of Sea School. Maybe I'll be able to get out during the week.  I'm unsure about that at the moment because I don't know whether there will be homework to do during the week.

I'm going to see this through with Sea School, although at the moment the last thing I want to do is be in a classroom situation all day for three weekends.  I've gotten spoiled with all the free time since retiring.  And I enjoy not having a schedule to adhere to.  People tell me that I'm living the dream life.  It feels good to me.  I've worked at some job or been in school for so long.  Now I'm enjoying freedom from the clock and filling my days with what I want to do. It's not a dream anymore but the reality of my life.

And I learned what is obvious to a child. That life is simply a collection of little lives, each lived one day at a time. That each day should be spent finding beauty in flowers and poetry and talking to animals. That a day spent with dreaming and sunsets and refreshing breezes cannot be bettered. But most of all, I learned that life is about sitting on benches next to ancient creeks with my hand on her knee and sometimes, on good days, for falling in love. — Nicholas Sparks

  1. If there is an opposite to the feeling that Nicolas Sparks wrote about there, that is how I feel today.
I know it will pass. As all things do.
Thank you for reminding me. And I think you will do fine in sea school, even with that schedule because you know it's only three weeks of your time and you are choosing to do this for a greater purpose.
And you know what? If you don't want to do it, YOU DONT HAVE TO! Which is wonderful.

  6. Those pics make me feel free -- the open sea, the beautiful boats, the life Nicholas Sparks describes. I hope Sea School isn't too boring Syd, and you will be able to return to your sailing afterwards.

  9. The photos are fabulous and capture the feeling of your words. Freedom! I know Sea School might seem a bit of a drag but when you complete it, you will feel proud. I like the Nicholas Sparks quote. Have a super week!

  10. You want the certification the classes bring right? then they are an enhancement to your retirement. Unless of course you expect your retirement will be over in four week ends? slowing down is good, now just press that left side pedal a wee bit harder Syd.

then go to the boat and BLAST Led Zeppelin.
