Sunday morning

We had such a fun day yesterday. Two of the cruising groups I belong to had parties at the same location. We were anchored near the inlet with access to a nice sandy beach.

We were the host boat for the noon and early afternoon group. People brought shrimp, salads, cooked ribs and corn, making quite a feast. One of the boats rafted up was a Herreshoff Mobjack, a classic wooden boat. I really like the old classic boats, and there is nothing quite like a wood boat. But the maintenance is huge, especially in this climate.

After the one group left, it was time for dinner with the next cruising group. They are more of a partying crowd, but promptly at 7 PM, the food and drink were packed up and everyone said good night.

By this time, we were exhausted. Amelia, our dog, had been petted and hugged a lot. She was ready to lie on her dog bed, which she promptly did when we got back to our boat.

Thus far, we have been lazing about. I took Amelia to shore. We'll get underway later, after a nap. I'm sorry to see the weekend go because I start sea school next week. It will be intense with a lot of cramming of information. I hope that I haven't forgotten how to cram!

What are you doing today that's fun? I hope the day is going well.

  3. I am farther inland than I would like to be, but overall, I am having a fine time today doing not a whole lot of anything. About to travel home where we will again take over the care of chickens and garden and house and get to see our children and grandchildren and live this life which we are so privileged to live.

  5. I went for a 30 mile bike ride through trails, woods, and along water..by myself. The solitude, sun, and scenery were awesome.

    Thanks for asking!

  6. Fresh air, good company, good food - if everyone could enjoy these things regularly the world would be a better place.

  7. Oh my, a Herreshoff! That's a rare treat and a true labour of love, maintenance-wise.

Our club had our annual Commedore's sailpast yesterday, starting at noon with all membership in white ducks and blazers, bagpipes on the lawn followed by speeches by the Commodore, club executive and the Mayor. Then out under sail to sail past the Commodore and salute him, then in due course back to the club for hors-doevres under the marquis, dinner and dancing.

A good way to spend the day and catch up with fellow sailors after the long winter.

  10. Sorry to be responding to this post a day late but we left early on Sunday morning and didn't get home until late Sunday night. Went on a day long Harley ride with 2 other couples up to the Wisconsin Dells. Had a great day on the bikes. Glad you had a great day on the water Syd.

  11. Hey Syd, could use your perspective on 2 12-year old labby dogs that may need a new home.

My blog talks a bit about the experience. I don't know what to do but know you have experience.

  12. Celebrated my hubby's 42nd Birthday this weekend with a hike to the Lake Agnes Teahouse. There was snow taller than me up there still! (not our usual June weather) Caught in slush and rain on the hike down we were drenched but it was exhilarating even if we only do that once every 5 years! I'm thinking a boat near a sandy beach sounds lovely! (and much warmer) It is a back to the grind Monday here - but looking for another adventure already...all the best to you all.

  14. Have to admit my day was very quiet and tame compared to yours !
BTW, my grandaughter who is going to Charleston for her Junior year from NC State is named Amelia! Maybe we'll meet up at some point when I visit her.

  15. Your weekend sounds like so much fun! You are a tough act to follow! And how do you stay so trim with all of that good food around so often??! My fun today was that I walked 5 miles with a sponsee, I came home to a quiet house and took a nap.....I know boring. But little Lu is visiting her big brother and the house is so quiet and I have no responsibilities. It feels so good for a day or so. :o)

  18. Nevermind, I answered my own question about the Mobjack. :)

Sounds like a fun day! I love the photo of Amelia in the boat. What a cutie! Last Sunday was an amazing day! A girlfriend and I had a one day road trip around our state; went to a new zoo, craft show, tried some new restaurants, shopping, and took the long scenic route through the mountains to get home. It was a lot of fun and enjoyed the day tremendously!
