The only one

I am having a great time sailing the dinghy today. I came out yesterday on the sailboat, and the wind was blowing about 25 knots. Today, all is much calmer, although there is a chance for a thunderstorm later. It was just enough breeze to have fun in the dinghy, tacking back and forth around the big boat.

It's good to have a break from packing up boxes. We finished packing and now just have to take out the old cabinets. A friend is going to buy them so that is one less hassle.

One of our cats decided to make the bar sink home. This cat was rescued from the middle of the highway when she was just a wee kitten. She was near death when I saw her in the road. I told her that if she lived, she would not have to worry about having a home. She is spoiled and much loved.

My week has been good so far. The Monday meeting was an anniversary for a friend. We have a dessert to celebrate the birthday and give out a bronze medallion. This was the quote from C. S. Lewis that I put in the card:
“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: "What! You too? I thought I was the only one.”

Thinking I was the only one who felt so sad, angry, and generally miserable was what kept we in hiding for so long. I did not think anyone could understand what I was feeling. What a relief it was to hear my own story in the rooms of Al-Anon. And what a relief to find so many people that I now call friend. I know that I am not the only one. There are so many of "us" out there and so many who haven't yet made it to rooms. I hope you know that you aren't the only one.

    1. I do and she drinks out of the faucet. But I wouldn't douse her.

  2. I agree with the relief felt by hearing my story inside those rooms. I brought a friend two weeks ago and the first story told that night was her story. She couldn't believe it. I had told her she would eventually hear her story, but to have it be the first one was truly a gift from God. She's continuing to attend meetings. It works when you work it. :)

  3. Yes, I think for all of us, love begins to bloom when two hearts realize themselves in each other.

That kitty cat. If reincarnation is real, I want to come back as a beloved pet next time. Forget this human shit. Let me be someone's spoiled dog or cat.

    1. People say that they want to come back as one of our animals. They are like children to us. And are treated with respect and much kindness.

    1. Yes, it is very important. And your cat must know something that my cat does.

  5. We had a newcomer yesterday who could only get her name out before the tears took over. Indeed, we are not the only ones...they keep coming because the disease keeps doing....

and I'll be back because I need the newcomer to tell me where I never want to go again.

    Thanks for the post Syd.

    1. Newcomers are so important. The disease is rampant and we are the lucky ones who made it to the rooms. So many don't.

  6. That cat picture reminds me of the old instructions for an automatic toilet bowl cleaner:

    1) Add small amount of soap
    2) Insert cat
    3) Close lid quickly, hold down lid
    4) Flush
    5) Be sure to stand clear when opening lid.

    1. Ron, LOL. But that would be only for those who don't like cats.

  7. Love the kitty in the sink. What a beautiful girl! Love hearing "my story" in the rooms too. I was one of those who thought that she was alone in her misery. Alanon saved me just like you saved that cat Syd. Thank you.

  8. I think that cat must be kin to our own little "Louisey", aka, Weeziegirl.

    1. Does Weeziegirl like water? Glad to know that you like cats, Lou. Animals teach about compassion in ways that humans can't.

  9. nope, we're not alone, are we. and i read somewhere once that if you ever want to know the warmed place in winter/coolest place in summer in your home, just go look where the cats are sleeping... that one of yours is adorable!

  10. Ok ok I can see from the bar-kitty picture that it is dated....but I still really love the old kitchen! Glad your week is calm. I'm also glad a friend is buying the old cabinets. Lol that would be me....queen of the reuse-recycle movement!

    1. Yes, it is dated, Annette. It will be beautiful when completed. Just a renewal for some serious cooking.

  11. I enjoyed reading the CS Lewis quote. This was an incredible connection for me in the rooms knowing I was not alone. For so many years the feelings I had made me feel as if i was the only freak in the world.Going to therapy for years did not replace listening to others who also suffered in silence but came to realize that there is another way to be in the world.

  12. Good quote you used in the card. So true.

And what is it with cats and sinks?! Maybe it's cool in there. Maybe it's like a hug but without the people germs. Who knows!

    1. I cease to figure them out. Cats are interesting and dogs are wonderful. I am glad to be an animal lover.
