The Dance

Don't tell me you want to hold the whole world in your heart.
Show me how you turn away from making another wrong without abandoning yourself when you are hurt and afraid of being unloved.

Tell me a story of who you are,
And see who I am in the stories I am living.
And together we will remember that each of us always has a choice.

Don't tell me how wonderful things will be . . . some day.
Show me you can risk being completely at peace,
truly OK with the way things are right now in this moment,
and again in the next and the next and the next. . .

From "The Dance" by Oriah Mountain Dreamer

We tell stories of who we are every day through our actions and how we live. I have a choice to either live without taking chances or to live fully and not look back.

I also don't want to hear how great things will be tomorrow but want to appreciate what is in front of me today. It isn't easy to live in the moment, to not think about what needs to be done next week or about the weekend. But today is a new day, and will be filled with the ups and downs of living life. And I feel okay with the way things are right now. Here's wishing you peace for this moment in this day.

  1. Living in the now is one of those things which sounds so easy in it, but its so damn hard to do in practise!
Hey they say your HP only sends you things he knows you can manage so u can grow, but sometimes I reckon my HP has more confidence in me than I do...
Someone said that in a meeting once

  2. Wonderful uplifting post. Thanks Syd.

  3. You are so right, and just what I needed to see today first thing.
    Shine on.

  4. Exactly what I needed to be reminded of at just this moment.

  5. A woman in an early meeting said once, "Be where your hands are."
For some reason, that simple statement illuminated the concept of living in the moment for me.

Before program, great stretches of my life went by in a blur, while I mourned the past or dreaded the future - I was on autopilot.

Al-Anon gave me back the ability to really live my life, not just endure it.

  6. Yes, carpe diem! :)

  7. Living in the present is the heart of Buddhist practice.

  8. oh that's a beautiful piece. and yes! let's all live today the way we want, the right way, because then there would be no need for promises of 'tomorrow i will...'

  9. Thank you, Syd. I had a rough day. This post helps lift my spirits.

Let me know what you think. I like reading what you have to say.
