Tired but happy

It was a really nice weekend. I worked until nearly midnight on Friday to get the boat in the water. Stepping the mast in the dark was an adventure! It all got done though and we motored to the marina getting there around 1 AM on Saturday. After that, I just dropped in the V berth and slept.

On Saturday, I sailed to a favorite mooring and rowed the dinghy ashore to walk on the beach. There were a lot of boats on this deserted island. It's become party central at the point but once I got away from that, the entire four miles of beach was deserted. It was a nice walk and a good time to appreciate living in these times.

I think that this is a good time to live. I've seen about the best the earth has to offer. Technology has advanced rapidly during my lifetime. I've gotten to work at a career that sought to improve the condition of the oceans. If things don't improve, then I've seen the best of the planet. So it's been a good time to be alive.

Today I'm grateful for:
  • Living in a time where mankind stands at the brink of momentous decisions
  • Having seen so many great things and worked to effect positive changes for the planet
  • Another day in which I have a chance to do things right
  • Life experiences that have been challenging but from which I've grown and learned some great truths
  • Having my home group meeting tonight where I get to see some of my friends in recovery.

  1. Well I hope you don't plan on retiring ealry Syd because the planet needs peeps like you to help with it's preservation and protection. And education..can you write a book or something for the kids maybe? You probably have seen the best of ocean life..but..I will never give up hope.
    Thanks for sharing..

  2. What a simple,honest post. Thank you.

  3. "Another day in which I have a chance to do things right"~~I like that. Glad you find your work so rewarding also. ~T~

  4. yeah I usually want to sleep after dropping a v berth also. ;)

  5. you are a breath of fresh air with your positive attitude. i can get so overwhelmed by today, as in the state of the world as it is today, and hearing people talk about days gone by and say 'those were the good days'. and that's why it's great to hear at least ONE person say that now is a good time to live. thank you!

  6. "If things don't improve, then I've seen the best of the planet"

That comment is a little distressing to me. About the closest I get to working with the ocean is through sea turtles. I did have a graduate level marine ecology class as an undergrad, but that is about it. I read an article recently that was very pessimistic about the nature of the oceans of the world. Sometimes I wonder if things can really be that bad. I realize they aren't great, but I guess I'm the eternal optimist. Your comment makes me realize that it may be worse than I realize. Lets hope people get it before it's too late.

  7. Thats so true syd, we do live at the bast times, I guess we are honoured to be living now and just think 4 years ago I was so possessed by drink I would rather live in a hazy fog of active alcoholism.
Yes my dog walk is a beautiful walk in a lovely green lush fields, its at its best this time of year, all the rain makes the plants grow like mad, in fact its raining still now as I type this but Im not so bothered cos Im at work

Let me know what you think. I like reading what you have to say.
