Last night the speaker at our home group meeting talked about meditation. She has been doing meditation for a number of years and has clinical training as a therapist. And she uses meditation in her practice.
She led us through a meditation. We lit some candles, listened to soothing music and concentrated on our breathing. She asked that we put our hand over our heart to feel it beating. Then she instructed us to visualize the heart beating and connecting with all the other hearts in the room.
Although this sounds really wacky when I'm writing it, it was a relaxing experience. I found that as she softly spoke and I concentrated on my breathing, my mind became blank as I focused internally. A great sense of relaxation and comfort came over me. I felt as if I were truly cocooned and not concerned about anything else except my heart beat and my breathing.
I'm not sure that I'll be able to entrance myself but am planning to try this form of meditation. It was a great opportunity to let go and just be.
I enjoy that deep kind of meditation... I dont do it enought, but I so enjoy it
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment ☺
I've done this before and it's very relaxing. It feels like the weight of the world is lifted afterwards.
ReplyDeleteI have learned there are different kinds of meetings..that's a good thing. One of my groups is on the weepy side. Maybe we should try the candles & soothing music, but I'm thinking it will not go over.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first started meditation I had atape. You went through a series of eye exercises to get you into a deep meditation. I did this for the first time in my lunch break at work. % hours later I woke up, feeling really refreshed, but having missed all my afternoon appointments. What a laugh. Thanks for the memory.
ReplyDeleteIts my best to sit still for 5 minutes at lunch - without doing anything... but still its a start.

ah yes, I have not been able to master the art of meditation...but it is something that I really need and need to practice!
ReplyDeleteWhoever "findon" is--that was FUNNY!So, for me there must be a timing aspect to 'meditation'. I have not had trouble when in 'meditation mode'..my trouble is getting INTO med-mode. putting th brakes on my brain, sending the 'committee' ouy to lunch, and getting rid of "Well I'll do it tomorrow."
ReplyDeleteSyd, thank you for your Alanon viewpoint. Prayer Girl loves you, too.
Sounds serene. Music used to give me that peace and serenity. Now I rely on candlight and just quiet silence...there a peace there, you almost fear shattering. (Hugs)Indigo
ReplyDeleteDid you know the Sanskrit language came from the sounds the sages heard in deep meditation?
ReplyDeleteMeditation can be the most healing thing for our spirits. The ego self has to let go some for us to be able to meditate silently, but whatever happens when we sit for meditation, is meditation.
I love stuff like that. I really do.
ReplyDeletesounds healing!
ReplyDeleteI love meditation with a relaxation and open hearted experience. I wish that we had a meeting like that where I am currently, as it's great to do that with others, so thank you for the great reminder!

A woman in my AlAnon group said "Prayer is talking to God. Meditation is listening." I don't know if she came up with it, but what a great saying.
ReplyDeleteI have participated in "guided meditation" a couple of times and it was a soothing and uplifting experience.
ReplyDeleteI also really like just getting into the "silence" and knowing that God is speaking to me.
I'm working my way through Vipassana mediation right now. It is hard, but very rewarding. Continued practice of meditation can really calm your mind.
ReplyDeleteWould have liked to have been there for that.
ReplyDeleteI love those moments of connection I feel in meditation.
ReplyDeleteOne of my meetings is candle light meeting and it is so relaxing and calming. I love it. I am lousy at meditation. I can't sit still long enough. I am working on it though.
ReplyDeleteSyd, I really love this. I'm tempted to try it for my first meeting speech. Great for those of us who never make the time to actually do it.
ReplyDeletethat's sounds absolutely wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love meditating, though without official training I dunno if I do it correct.
ReplyDeleteI love that feeling when all your body feels like its floating and your mind feels far away, I just concentrate on my breathing and feel the events of the day pass me by
I meditate quite often now but my goal has been to practice daily. It' taken a long time to get where I am with it. I love it. jeNN
