What can I say?

I missed posting yesterday because I dropped out of sight of technology for a day. I took the day off, walked on the beach, went out to dinner, and enjoyed every moment of an extended weekend.

I won't call this spring fever, because today is not particularly warm. But the daffodils and forsythia are blooming and buds are on the shrubs. I can feel that we're about to turn the corner of our coldest days and begin to blossom in the delight of spring in the South.

I don't think that there's much that can compare to spring down here. Everything wakes up and shouts out that it's time to put on a color display. Azaleas are everywhere with their riot of color. And the days begin to develop a languid feel to them. The first regatta of the season takes place with multi-colored spinnakers billowing on the downwind runs. And the chorus of spring peepers is amazing in the wetland near the house.

We're not there yet, but the forecast is for warmer weather this week. I can feel that collective energies are gathering to bring forth new growth. And with it, there is a spiritual reawakening that is starting to occur within me as well. Life is good.

  1. I just started reading your blog this past week. First of all I would like to say congrats on your being F.I.N.E.
I am not in recovery but have experienced dealing with persons who have. One was my sister in law who hit rock bottom many times and ended up losing her life. All the booze took over her liver.. She died at age 52.
The other is my ex-brother in law,who was married to my sister for years, he gave up on his family, he lost the true love of his life, my sister, he lost his dignity, respect.
I am not sure how to deal with the situtations, I think deep down we all do things for reasons.
Your page has inspired me to understand and deal. GOOD LUCK

  2. Sometimes a day off is all it takes to get ourselves renewed and ready to start again - a rest is a good thing and one where there is new life and bursting colors has got to rank right up there with the best days off ever.

  6. I lived very near Charlotte NC for 6 years. You're not kidding when you say there's nothing like a southern spring. Everything blooms at once,it is spectacular! I enjoyed spring the most while living there. Ours is pretty, but much longer and more subtle.
I have to take longer breaks from the computer these days myself. It takes time to be a courtious blogger.jeNN

  8. Although I'm just about 3 1/2 hours from you, Syd, I can't say that Spring has sprung here yet. It's freezing today but at least no snow and I can feel the change coming.
Glad you had a nice day "off" and it's always good to get away from the computer stuff for a bit.

  9. Thanks for reminding me it is spring. I miss the Midwest at this time of year. I planted a rose bush today and am placing potted flowers around the house to trick myself into thinking I am somewhere green.

  12. Oh, Syd, we're all so sick of winter here. Even my oncologist said today he's seeing more high blood pressure, etc. I spoke about your blog in my Alanon meeting tonight. I think you might have a few more readers soon.

    Take care. ~T~ :o)
