Brief today

I have to make this brief. My wife's sponsor has been moved to Hospice and her time remaining appears to be short. We are feeling sad right now. It's uncertain when we'll be able to visit. I wish that there was something happier to write about, but we both know that the cancer has progressed very rapidly.

The news this morning made me think about how fleeting life can be. I am praying that God will hold all the sick and suffering in his hands and ease their pain.

  2. I'm so sorry to hear this. Our sponsors are so much apart of our lives that they sometimes squeeze into the roles of family members.
    Bless her heart.

  6. I agree that moments like these are reminders of how fleeting life is. Even a long life is pretty fleeting in the grand scheme of things.

One, I vow to renew my attention to appreciating every moment of this life I have.

Two, I will pray for your wife, her sponsor, you, and all who will be affected by this loss.

  10. It is tough to lose a sponsor, especially one to whom we have become close. I've only known mine since April 2008, but I love him like a father, He knows more about me than any other human.

Heartfelt prayers I'm saying for you ALL tonight. But death is part of life. So wonderful that we are often relieved from horrible suffering these days.

  12. I'm sorry to hear that. Our usual beginner Al-Anon group leader has been out for months due to chemo. She was at our meeting last night with only one more treatment to go. I thought she looked very good actually. (I looked horrible when I was going through chemo!)

  16. Good morning, Syd!

What a wonderful bouquet of blog flowers from all your friends! I read each one very tearfully, since I could identify somewhat with the potential loss, when my hubby died in my arms. He, too, requested that I allow any and all who wanted to visit during his last weeks of life. And, I did this for him. People from all over the community made a continual flow of love by visiting him and he loved it. Thanks to the program - Al-Anon - I was able to keep an open mind and not drown the event with grievous tears; we were able to laugh at the past, and even plan my future without him. This was one of the most precious and special periods of my life, and my hubby had become, after 43 years, the last 10 of which he ws sober, my best friend. He made me feel loved so intensely, that, after 7 years being without him, that I can close my eyes and still feel his spirit.

Your spouse's sponsor has probably evoked the same emotions or similar ones from the people she cared for in the program with unconditional love and care. This is the supreme example of 'getting back what was so generously given away.'

God bless you and your spouse, and may that sponsor have a peaceful farewell.

    Hugs, and prayers,
