Let sleeping dogs lie

I slept in quite late for me this morning. It was warm and comfortable. And there was no real reason to get out of bed.

I had a late night call from a sponsee who was involved in an arguement with his drunk spouse. The 16 year old son who is autistic was not coping well with the situation and had run of the house to say that he was sleeping outside in the 24 degree temperature.

The sponsee called after his wife had passed out. He had talked his son into coming back inside. But he thought that perhaps he should call the police.

I asked him if things were now quiet and he said they were. So I said that my experience was to "let sleeping dogs lie", try to get some sleep and see what the morning brings.

I used to live with daily drama in which the only thing that was assured was a thousand apologies in the morning. I hate when children are involved. I know how much alcoholism can hurt. I pray for those still sick, suffering, and in pain from this disease.

Now, that I have written about this, I'm going to fix a good breakfast, have a cup of coffee, and read the paper. I told my wife this morning how grateful I am to have her in my life. Life looks okay for me today. How about you?

  3. My husband asked me this morning how I ended up in Alanon. I was married to my first husband with a two year old and one on the way at the time. Sharing with him how chaotic I made my life back then, with the ex hiding his drinking and me a F.I.N.E. mess. I remember. I will pray for your sponsee and his family today.

    Namaste

  6. Syd, I don't get to stop by here as frequently as I'd like. Fortunately, though, the posts don't go away, so when I finally do get here, it's such a joy to catch up on your wonderful, sensitive and wise posts.

  7. Life looks good to me too. I'm home from my wonderful Sat am CoDA topped off with some retail therapy, all part of the scheme of treating myself as a deserving person! AND, I have time for re-writes after blogging. Life looks good.

  8. What wise advice. I am so happy with the Al-Anon program and often wish I had found it during my first marriage to an active alcoholic.

But God's plan for me was different and I'm not complaining. I'm sure all is working out just as it is supposed to.

  10. It is very sad for children. I hope this morning for the family was peaceful. It sounds as though you never get a break, you are always helping someone else. Such a kind generous person.

  11. My Al-anon group was huge today and listening was just what I needed. I have a dry drunk that Al-anon is helping me to detach from. I don't give my love away that easily to their dysfunction anymore. Al-anon explains carefully to intellectuals like me, HOW to detach and love myself.

  12. Yes, let her lie....even if it's on the floor. So sad for everyone! Especially sad with the son with challenges, I have one too. Seems to multiply their growing up year traumas more than average. But somehow, they get through it.

  20. as close as it brings the chaos, having the mess of another within ear shot helps me remain grateful.

even with the difficulty of this day, yes, my day is good.

  21. One can never win an arguement with ignorance. Let them sleep!! I am better today then the last 10 or so. Life is good today but by the grace of God.

Hugs... love the pic of your pup.

  24. At the end of the day, we all need to approach such situations with coffee and a big breakfast. Stick with the basics, right? Thanks and have a great day.
