My tribe

Last night, I went to a meeting at the 12 step club.  One of the ladies who was at the meeting on Monday night was there, and she gave me a big hug.  As Ms. Moon commented, no matter where I go, I can find my people--members of a tribe that "understand as few others can".  It surely is a comfort to know that.

I got a comment yesterday from Cris who said that she needed help.  Cris is in Spain so I'm hoping that she will find an AA meeting nearby.  The fellowship of AA and Al-Anon are worldwide so if anyone needs help, that help is available.  And if you cannot travel to a meeting, there are phone services worldwide where you can talk to someone who understands and can share their experience, strength and hope with you.

Not coincidentally, the topic last night was on facing your fears and taking steps to move in a positive direction.  Even if those are little steps, each one added to another is an accomplishment.  Just like sailing, a slight shift in direction can change the course to a destination.  If I don't think that I am moving in a positive direction, maybe it is time for me to make a shift, take a risk, and see what happens.  You may be amazed.

I will be leaving here tomorrow.  I am looking forward to getting home.  It's time for me to rejoin the tribe where my heart is.

  1. It is a good thing that AA and AlAnon are everywhere. I didn't know about the phone thing. Safe travels, Syd.

  2. it is good to have that awareness of when you need to make that shift...it becomes easy to slip into denial instead...hope chris finds that meeting...

  3. I've been to an open meeting in Barcelona. It was English speaking, but there are tons of Alanon, AA and NA meetings in Spain

  4. There are days when sitting silently in the rooms of AA is the only thing that can return me to sanity. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just being with 'my people.' I get that.

  12. Where ever you reach out may the hand of AA be there.
When I was a GSR one of our goals was to be visible enough for those in need but to keep our anonymity.
Spain has some great literature online and meetings if she has a computer?

  13. Al-Anon people - in meetings, on phones, on the street, socially, casuallly, officially, online, in other cities and towns and EVERYwhere I've turned at home and away from home - are such a willing and warm source of real help. I'll never not be stunned by the fact that this was new to me just months ago. I'll never not be grateful.

    (Best wishes to you, Cris...)

  14. After reading this post, I realize there was a reason I didn't read your blog until today. I needed this today.

Facing those fears and taking a step towards a shift in a new direction, even if it is ever so slight. I feel the pull that it's time to take a new step, a new risk, to see how it helps shift my destination. Thank you.
