Yoga sailing retreat

So this is where I am-- on a 45 foot sailboat with a group of people who are at least 15 or more years younger than me detoxing with food and doing yoga meditation. Let me say that the food has been interesting with a kale, lettuce, cucumber, apple, lemon, and olive oil drink for breakfast. All the meals are geared to detox the body from the bad stuff that we eat. I have not had this experience before. Being on the water makes me voraciously hungry, but today I have to say that the juiced vegetables have been filling.

I am along as an apprentice captain with the idea that I would be one of the main captains for these retreats in the future. I am not sure if I fit. I am not sure that I can make the witty conversation. Hell, I don't want to do that. I am lying in my bunk writing this and enjoying the solitude from the others.

This afternoon was the first yoga session. It is Kundalini style and the instructor studied in India. It was interesting with chanting, centering, and a lot of pelvic a d breath moves. I haven't done any of this. Man, I feel like a fish out of water who is doing my best to swim.

Tomorrow, the day begins at 6:45 AM with another detoxifying elixer, followed by yoga. Right now, I would like to be on my own boat chilling out. Tomorrow is another day. We shall see how the day goes.

  1. Syd,

Be very careful. I have done extensive studies on the effects eating healthy with all of the right foods combined with exercise.

The conclusions of my studies indicated that every single person that lived this type of lifestyle is either dead or will die.

For me I have chosen not to risk it.

Think about it my friend, be careful.

  2. Oh my. I have to wonder- where did all of these so-called toxins come from?
    Well. Enjoy. It's an experience!

  4. Enjoy the detox and yoga and meditation. Just remember, that which does not kill you, makes you stronger. Namaste.

  6. Nature's green colours generally look pretty good but I have to say that green drink is making me queasy (and also green) :)

Perhaps there are other kinds of groups who want to go boating, ones where you'd feel more comfortable? It puts you in an awkward place, doesn't it ...

  8. ROFLMAO at Mom and Dad's comment. NICE!

What a departure from hosting in your own spirit huh? Hosting for pay is a little different than hosting from your heart sometimes, sometimes it's complimentary and sometimes it just feels like being a fish out of water flopping around awkwardly waiting to flop back into familiar water.

  9. lol @ Ron! Syd, I think I would love it. Try to relax and enjoy it. I have a friend who recently started up a company called Tasty Kale. They are kale snacks. He is doing really well with it.

  10. You never know Syd . . . maybe some of them folk get tired of the Captain's witty conversation . . . maybe they're wishing he would go lie in his bunk for a while ;-)
    It does take all sorts.

  11. When your the captain you can call for a day of silence. Everyone will think it is part of the schedule.

I visited a place where there was silence every day from sun down to sun up it was very nice for an introvert.

  12. My friend is a yoga teacher and she does detoxes all the time. This reminded me of her. Of course, she is not out in the sun on a boat when she does them! Hope you made it through okay. Once you get off the boat, I can only imagine the meal you will enjoy!

  13. I laughed when I read this Syd. I have a sponsee with long sobriety and complaining of boredom in the program. I told her to take on something new ... outside of her comfort zone, and that seems to be what you've done.
What an interesting group. Do they expect you to participate, other than eating (or drinking) the food?

  14. Oh Syd this is hilarious! I once went off on a media-sponsored designer detoxing retreat and sat around feeling as if I came from another planet but I learned a great deal about human nature!

  15. On the other hand....that looks like a pretty sweet boat! Enjoy the ride!

  16. Oh my, I don't know if I've ever seen that shade of green before. :-D I can go for the boat, the meditation, the yoga and even green stuff but I like my own company too much as I get older. I will give you kudos and a standing ovation for stepping outside your comfort zone. Have a blissful trip.

    Namaste

  17. Syd, you are a good sport! But I have to say I don't think this is for the you I think I have come to know. I picture you as the captain of a ship taking occasionaly groups of people who are interested in marine life and conservation and perhaps/or perhaps not, the occasional AlAnon seminar aboard ship in a demonstration of detachment or letting go. ...but here I go again lookng at someone else's life, perhaps it's time I took a look at my own;)

Let me know what you think. I like reading what you have to say.
