Fall is coming

Fall is in the air. I have seen the first sulphur butterflies, and last night I slept under a light quilt on the boat. It is breezy and cool this morning. I can feel fall coming on.

The week was rainy which I like. It was good weather for reading and getting house projects done. We are thinking of redoing our kitchen. The designer came by the other day and now our heads are filled with thoughts of cabinets and countertops. We both like to cook so we know that a gas stove top is a must. I am sure I will be talking about this project (=headache) as things progress.

But this day I am on the boat with my girl Amelia. She is looking at me with those soulful eyes. I can hear her asking "Okay, when are we going to shore? I want to check my pee mail and leave some messages for my friends.". We will go for a walk and then row back to the boat for breakfast. She likes hers with some Pupperoni on top of kibble. I will stick to some fruit!

We have had a couple of meetings this week on Tradition Eight. It's about Al-Anon remaining non-professional. I'm glad that we are a fellowship of equals with no one trying to be the therapist. I can simply share my experience, strength and hope. No need for me to be an expert or tell others what to do. Sure, I have opinions but realize that others have to make their own decisions. Working with those I sponsor keeps me mindful of this tradition. And I'll be mindful also as we move forward with our kitchen project!

Happy Saturday to each of you.

  1. Good luck with the kitchen project. I can only imagine that the things you learn and practice from Al-Anon will come in very handy for the process.
Feeling a bit fallish here too. But it's quite literally the calm before the storm.
    Sigh....
The things we cannot change- hurricanes being one of them.

  4. Like the idea that we share our experience strength and hope we are not therapists...My sponsee wants answers and results when there just arent some right away, many take years to develope and mature.
I am not her therapist and don't have the answers for her.
    Love this part of Alanon

  6. As much as I love the Sun, I love a rainy day when I don't have to find excuses to stay indoors all day being a hermit.

  7. Just 3 1/2 hours away from you and nowhere near the ocean ... but we are having the weather changes here too and it's lovely. ENJOY !

My son has designed and installed many kitchens and he makes a point of making it as easy as possible for his clients ... and they really appreciate it. I hope your project goes as well because a new kitchen can be a great joy.

  8. Hoping the hurricane doesn't hit somewhere like Haiti where there are so few resources. Amelia is such a sweetheart.

Syd, I have a gas hob and love cooking on it -- for all the headaches, it will be a pleasure getting counters the right height for C and cupboard space where you want it, plug and lighting to suit you.

Your Al-Anon balance shines through -- we are not experts and each of us can only offer what has helped us personally.

  10. I am so looking forward to fall!

I love what you said about your Al-Anon Group as I feel exactly the same way about my Nar-Anon group, just sharing our experiences, no one telling you what you should or shouldn't do, I do glean much from what others share. This group of people was such an awesome support system when my son overdosed on heroin a few weeks back (the paramedics were able to bring him back thank God). I know God put this group in my life and for that I am forever grateful.

  12. We don't really get a fall season... we have to drive up north a few hours to see the leaves change. It's still quite warm today, going to be trible digits, supposedly the first day of fall. LOL Adorable photo of your pup.
