Chaos

Last night's meeting topic was on how to deal with chaos in our lives. The chair shared that her life was in chaos because of a divorse, sale of the house, purchasing a new house, and having to deal with children in school--all without any help.

I used to think that the insurance commercial that says, "Life comes at you fast" was funny but there's truth as well as humor in it. The best that I've been able to figure out is that we can't figure life out. It's way too complex and there are just too many variables. I have learned to expect the unexpected and when things become too overwhelming, it's best to prioritize (First Things First) or give something up (Keep it Simple). These are things that help to "live life on life's terms".

Thankfully, I'm an organized person but when dealing with demanding people, organization isn't what's needed. I practice patience to a point but will set boundaries when I need to do so. I also trust that my HP has a plan. Maybe I'm needing some humility, acceptance or courage added to the lesson plans for living. However bad things may seem at the moment they occur, I know that I'll eventually get through the situation and have learned something. As I've heard so many times, the school of hard knocks teaches lessons.

  1. I hope that person found a way to ask for help or that others stepped up after the meeting to offer their help. I'm so grateful this is a we program and I no longer have to do anything alone.

  3. It sounds like you are trusting in something greater than yourself to carry you through a situation that may be difficult to you. That trust is beautiful.

  4. I'm right there with you on all of that.
Boundaries are something that rarely exist for me, which makes the ability to avoid resentments even more necessary. (there's something for me to write about)
    Thanks.
    I think.

  5. I think I sometimes do better in chaos -- I have less time to sit with my own thoughts then. When I am on autopilot I see to know what needs to be done and just do it. My biggest missteps seem to come with too much thinking and when I let the voices of too many other people's opinions fill me with fear.

It's good you are listening to your HP. Hope you find some peace within the craziness.

  6. Sometimes it is good to observe another's chaos and realize that we aren't there.

  7. Great Blog! It's really encouraging to me to see you describe yourself as an adult child of an alcoholic; I am too, but I never really define myself in that way, I am just over two years sober and am starting to really see how my parents' illness has affected me in such a pervasive way. It's very sad really.

  8. When life is coming at me fast, "keep it simple" is sometimes the ONLY thing I can remember...but it helps more than anything else. Good post today Syd

  9. Gosh you sound so healthy, so grounded, so together! I am so not there yet, but I know that I can be better today than I was yesterday- progress, not perfection is my motto today!
    Love to you Syd

  12. I like what you said about dealing with demanding people. It is tough to handle someone else's chaos when they sign your paycheck. My whole work day is turning into one big prayer meeting in my head! But it works. I just have to keep remembering to work it and try not to swear at anyone:)
