Serenity?

My boat has been a blessing and a lesson. I've been thinking about a name for her. I think that she will be called "Serenity?". The question mark gives me the option on that given day to see whether it will be a serene trip on her or an aggravation. Over the last few days, I've experienced both feelings. There has been aggravation with the mast and serenity when I've completed something like oiling the teak. I see the ups and downs. I think that this boat will teach me a lot about dealing with extremes.

I got some fireworks today and lit off a couple of bottle rockets. Funny how it brings out the kid in me. Just playing around with a few sparklers and rockets is a happy feeling. I'm looking forward to meeting my sponsor for lunch tomorrow and going to see the big fireworks over the harbor at night. Then I'll get home and have my own little show. Not a bad way to celebrate the Fourth. At least no one around me will be celebrating with a fifth. I'm thankful for that.

  1. Serenity is a wonderful name.It speaks of peace, being calm, serene. What we all want and seek in our lives. What some of us strive for and never get. The word itself is calming.

  5. Serenity is good. How about Reflection. It has a positive or negative meaning depending on what is reflected back to you. You know as in that saying 'We see the world not as it is, but as how we are'. Or Beauty. Its has a seagoing reference and a more transcendent meaning as well, as the ability to see beauty is dependent on us, and where our head is at. Whatever. I tend to think of words as being self fulfilling prophesies, but thats just my view. Anyway, I like the sound of those fireworks too. sounds fun! Happy 4th july!

  6. I think that Serenity? is a great name. The name of my boat is Spirit - it was the name she had before I got her, and I wouldn't think of changing it. There's nothing quite like sailing - to bring out both incredible feelings (like when you hear the sound of the sails when they take on the wind) and frustrating ones!
