Our blog universe

I took a look at the list of blogs that I follow and am amazed at our community and its growth. I think that there are enough people listed to fill up an entire boat (for Pam's benefit) for the "Bloggers in Recovery" get together. I'm glad that Blogger added the new widget for following so that I can see who has updates. Otherwise, I'd be going through a very long list. There are lots of "us" out there who have decided to share their experience, strength and hope to a much larger community than our local meetings.

It's great to see some new people blogging. I came across Progress, not Perfection just the other day. Stop by and check out this new Al-Anon blogger. And then there is Cognitively Dissonant Interpretations to read.

But I also think about those who haven't written for a while. I think about Scout, JJ, Shugrr, and others whose posts I read. I hope that they are okay and decided to take a break from writing out their thoughts to the world online. There are days when I feel the same way--that I would rather not have to write about ordinary daily happenings because there is nothing much going on. But then I realize that nothing much going on--the status quo--isn't a bad thing either. If there isn't upheaval or chaos, then things just might be....serene. Yep, there's something to be said for those ordinary days when nothing much is going on.

  1. Well, now, Syd - - - I had to chuckle at your blog daily description of 'an ordinary day, nothing much going on' - - - as this took me a while to achieve when first learning how to manage my own very exciting and chaotic life in the 12 steps of Al-Anon recovery! I guess what I am trying to say is, 'Honey, you have arrived!' I see things very differently today from the pain of yesteryear. The poor me's are done and historic; I see that as very exciting; yes, indeed much was very dramatic and quite painful, but still, my life has never been, and still is not dull - just different and definitely exciting and busy, but ahhhhhh, mostly non-reactive and 'nothing much happenening.' Ain't it great!??
You have arrived! Soak it in, and just go with it.

  2. Yes we are growing!
The boat idea is sounding good. Of course you would have to participate, you can't stand at the railing with a cup on a rope dangled over the edge and scooping up water to look at.

  3. I do not know how I could have gotten this far without this community of supportive people - we are certainly blessed!

  4. I love "our blog universe." It's an amazing group. I often wonder how some of our friends are who haven't blogged in a while. I too hope they are just taking a beak from blogging.

  5. Hi Syd,
Thanks for the shout-out. I'm still very new to the blogosphere and Al-Anon, so I appreciate your posts. Reading how you've progressed is inspiring me to get more involved in the program. I'm sure this will come up in my future postings.
    take care...

  7. I think about the ones who have not been around for a while too, just like in the rooms, we can give a shout out occationally and let them know we are here and keep them in our prayers.

  8. Maybe I should add that widget thingy....I just check on everyone manually from my sidebar. As usual making things more difficult that they need to be. Just seemed redundant. I think about Scout a lot. She was one of the first to find me. I blogged before I got to AA and if it hadn't been for the support and guidance I got here I don't think I ever would have found the courage to give myself a chance.

  9. I guess ordinary days with not much going on could be a good or bad thing depending on who you are :) I also like this blogging community, although I don't write exclusively about recovery. There is allot of great stuff out there to read, including your posts.

  10. I'm with Cat. I don't know where I'd be without you fabulous folks! And I hope everyone keeps writing about their ordinary or extraordinary days because I love catching up with my new blogger friends.

  11. Yep. When I started blogging a year and a half ago, the community was much smaller. And I was the only one I could find blogging about sex addiction. Now lots more people have joined.

And I miss some of the folks who have disappeared too, like Scout. :(

  12. Gol Dang It! I don't HAVE ordinary days anymore. And I'm not trying to just be different...Maybe it's age related, but I now make things happen
...sometimes OK, sometimes not, but NEVER any moe boring, that's for sure.

I'm defective, in that I still push the envelope to that old chaotic life, not the drinking chaos, just the "Go, go, go, and don't-look-back, kind of thing.

I'll be better in the morning (Hey it IS morning!) when I get to my meetings!

  14. It's true Syd but we still want to hear from you on those serene days, even if you just post a video or something.
