Sunday thoughts

Some wise words to think about today:

"I don't care if I ever have another relationship. As soon as you call it a relationship, the measuring stick comes out. A friendship is when we see each other we are happy to be together and we miss each other when we aren't together and look forward to the time we can be together again."

"We suffer from brief enthusiastic encounters. God determines the miracles that last. I see you're still here! Be happy...this is the one thing that has never been brief."

  1. Ahhhh - keeping the measuring stick from coming out. That's the real test for me as to how well my relationship with God is working.

I felt judged and measured from early childhood and did a great job of incorporating that habit for myself. Thank God for Al-Anon. It has helped me see when I'm 'yardsticking' myself. It's a relief that I do a lot less of it these days. Now I can love and be loved a lot easier.

See what your short post brought to mind? Thanks!

  3. My marriage is much more than a friendship or a relationship.

  4. One of the toughest and most revolutionary aspects of getting sober has been unlearning what I thought I knew about relationships and intimacy and letting go.

    Thanks Syd

  7. It sounds nice... but there should be some 'accountability' especially in a marriage or a deepening romantic relationship.

You are supposed to 'give' without expecting anything in return; ......but on the other hand if you find you are the GIVER for the majority of the time; that relationship should be measured and asked why?? (martyrdom?? codependencies..; complacency??) ..

Friendships are easier than romantic joining..

Otherwise it is free LOVE.. and no responsibilities at all.

And you do have to measure the pluses and the minuses.. and see if you want to be in this type of 'relationship' for want of a better word. :) (smile).

    Just my two cents.

  8. I feel sometimes like your blog is a way for me to know deeper my own father's heart, a man who struggles with alcohol. Does that make any sense?

  9. Serious stuff. Don't we all get measured throughout life, and usually by someone else's standards?

    The photos are fantastic.
