Thoughts today

You can complain about the same problem three times.
Then you'd better be in the solution. If you have to talk to more than three people about the same problem, you don't want help, you want attention.

Meetings are an archipelago of sanity in a lunatic sea.

God doesn't close one door
without opening a better one ~ ~
BUT ~ ~ ~ ~ ~we've got to get our fingers out of the closing door. The reason you're in
pain is because you have your fingers in a door God is trying to close.

There are two kinds of people:
those seeking the truth ~
and those afraid of it .

My serenity is inversely proportional to my expectations.

  2. Wow, thanks Syd. I've always wondered how much bitching I'm allowed before I must get down to the work. Thanks for the three. btw, I'm always wondering if complaining to my husband counts as one or if this is just communication (allowing the complaining is NOT about him) LOVED the fingers in the door analogy.

  6. I'd say I'm a person who sometimes seeks the truth and sometimes I'm afraid of it. Sometimes I seek it even though I'm afraid of it. Sometimes I'm not seeking it because I'm not thinking about it. It's not so black and white to me. I'm somewhere in the middle.
I agree that meetings are an archipelago of sanity in a lunatic sea.
I also like your comment about serenity being inversely proportional to my expectations - that seems to be very true, I have noticed. I am calmer when I don't expect the day to be calm, but I also have to take care of myself. If it's getting too crazy around me I may need to physically detach and go get some quiet time, somewhere, to read an AlAnon blog or get some excersize or do something else relaxing.
I notice I can definitely get carried away complaining about stuff, and living in the solution is an option that leads to much more serenity. I'm not sure there's an exact number of times to complain, though - I think it varies depending on the situation and the person. Hope you don't mind my opinions and thank you again for having this blog!

  8. "My serenity is inversely proportional to my expectations."

    Word.

Expectations are just Resentments over in the corner doing pushups.

  11. I hear you Syd -- even when I'm most afraid of hearing certain truths, I'd rather know the truth than live in a cosy web of lies.

  12. Nicely said Syd. Took a lot of broken knuckles from closing doors to figure that out.

  13. Yes, I like the one, two, three... magic approach!

At first reading it sounded a little harsh, but wait, I can continue to talk about something if I am living in the solution.

As the listener, I need to be sure I am not judging someone else who needs to talk about the issue for a long while in ORDER to STAY in resolving the problem. As a listener, I may be DENYING someone their chance to keep a commitment... if I judge them as "bitching..."
